EVERY WHERE YOU LOOK these days people want to know the future. They spend their wages phoning the "Psychic Hotline," or visiting the palm reader down on the corner. Every morning as the daily newspaper arrives, it is over to page 6-C to read the horoscope for the day, not once realizing that it is not a star, the alignment of the planets, nor some person that claims to have some mysticpower, that determines their fate.
God has never condoned the activity of such charlatans who write or produce in any way this kind of material. In the Old Law the children of Israel were not allowed to use enchantment. Leviticus 19:26 says, "Ye shall not eat anything with the blood; neither shall ye use enchantment, nor observe times."
The word "enchantment" from the Hebrew was divination, that is the ability to know the future. Now, it is not the purpose of this article to discuss whether or not such a power exists, but rather to show that the Christian has no place being involved in any of this in any way. God forbade the children of Israel to participate in such evil.
Deuteronomy 18:10-12 reads: " There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee."
It was and is an abhorrence to God to be involved in such. No matter how enticing the world may be, we as Christians must abstain from the pollutions of it. We are in the world, but not of the world. Jesus said of his disciples, "They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world" (John 17:16).
In these times things have not changed. Over and over, we are warned not to partake in idolatry and witchcraft. These are listed as works of the flesh and sin in the eyes of God. These will also cost a person their soul. In Galatians 5:19-21 the apostle Paul teaches us, "Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God."
As the world leans closer and closer to the New Age Movement, paganism will continue to be on the rise. And since we are surrounded by such, we need to be aware that things like "The Psychic Solution," horoscopes, and such like are not from God but from Satan. We need to teach our children that these things are wrong before it is too late. We need to be aware that this evil is subtle, waiting to beguile unstable souls.
